A capacity field of 13 plus two emergencies has been confirmed for Saturday’s Listed Parramatta Cup (1900m) at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse, highlighted by some of the Autumn Carnival’s most exciting racing prospects.
Trainer Chris Waller is set to be offered several notable chances of success in the 2015 Parramatta Cup, having confirmed a total of six runners in the final field, including Our Voodoo Prince, Permit and Grand Marshal.
Securing six wins and a further seven minor place finishes from his 25 competitive starts so far, Our Voodoo Prince began is racing career in Britain before arriving at Waller’s Rosehill Gardens stables at the conclusion of 2013.
Charging home to win the Surdex Steel Handicap (1600m) in his maiden Australian appearance on March 22nd, the Kingmambo gelding was particularly impressive when taking out the Group 3 Easter Cup (2000m) a fortnight later before returning to the paddock.
Unable to beat a single runner home in the Group 3 Show County Quality (1200m) first-up in spring, Our Voodoo Prince appeared to be building in form when placing third in the Sportingbet Handicap (1600m), but failed to make an impact over two proceeding starts.
Having returned for ninth in the TAB Rewards Handicap (1500m) on February 7th, Waller is confident Our Voodoo Prince will line up for the Parramatta Cup in great condition.
Permit similarly began is racing career abroad and has secured several commendable results in the lead-up to the Parramatta Cup.
Placing third in a minor over 1900m first-up on November 15th, Permit has continued to find form in placing fifth in the Listed ATC Cup (2000m), fourth in the Listed Tattersall’s Club Cup (2400m) and second in the Listed Australia Day Cup (2400m) last time out on January 24th.
Allocated the ideal barrier 2, Permit has been confirmed to be partnered in-form jockey Josh Parr on Saturday.
Confirmed to target the Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) on Day 2 of The Championships, Grand Marshal placed eighth in his competitive return on February 7th, and is sure to react well to the step-up in running distance this weekend.
Tupac Amaru secured several impressive results over the 2014 Autumn Carnival and has also been confirmed in the 2015 Parramatta Cup final field.
Running second to Criterion in the Group 1 Australian Derby (2400m) before placing a credible sixth in the Sydney Cup, the Street Cry gelding has reportedly taken well to work over recent weeks and is primed for a return to the winner’s circle.
